A big, wooly hug

The blanket is almost finished. It is getting late, but now I am almost on the home stretch I don’t want to stop.
Working the edge has me holding the entire blanket on my lap. Thanks to every single person involved, it is like a big, wooly hug.

Stitches and thoughts

It has begun. Starting in the bottom left corner, working inwards and upwards, the squares are coming together.
I love how they all become the same size, and look like they just belong next to each other.
With every stitch I am aware of its purpose, and what the blanket symbolises.
It also madr me think of the last conversation I had with Nat, the day before she died. It was so trivial, everything was so normal. Nobody expected the terrible news.
I also thought about when I found out. The complete disbelief and unwillingness to accept it as truth. The hope that everything was just a sick joke. I wanted Nat to come and tell me herself that it wasn’t true, but of course she didn’t come. Then the feeling that hit home when it was confirmed to me without a doubt.
I thought of the Scoobies reactions.
I thought of her beautiful girls. Thought of how happy she had been, and how unfair it is for her to have been taken so young, and so suddenly.
The blanket is a symbol of all of this, of all her friends, of all the things she used to love, and of how lucky we are to be alive and hold those close that mean the most to us.

So much of everything

Seeing all the squares together like that is amazing. It is a very sad cause that has brought us all together, but it is quite overwhelming how many people have got involved – and this is just one of three blankets! – and wanted to help. There is so much empathy, love, friendship, cleverness, so much feeling, so much of everything in this project. Each square tells a little story and symbolises something. Each square was made with this project, with Nat and her family in mind.
It never ceases to amaze me. This sad, sad thing that will hopefully bring a little comfort.

All the squares are finally here, everything is ready to start the momentous task that I have been so reluctant to begin. Not because I don’t have the skills, but because it makes everything so final.
But it is time to say goodbye.

Sometimes the pure viciousness of others still surprises me. Even when I have left all expectations behind and decided to cut my ties, there is still more, they come up with new ways of proving to me how unbelievably evil they can be.
It is one thing to cut someone out, to ignore them and to treat them like something you wouldn’t even like to find on the sole of your shoe. It is a completely different thing to then pretend that you are not doing anything, aiming to instill paranoia, to make your unsuspecting “friends” believe they are just imagining it. Major headfuck.
Personally, this discovery left me quite cold, having already decided to cut all ties.
On a different level, all I can think is “You evil little bitch.”

Good riddance.
